Vision

Don Bosco Boys’ Home, Vellakinar envisions training youngsters to become professional and efficient social workers and agents of empowerment through formal education and non-formal village exposure, creating lasting impact in rural children and youth.

History

Originally established as a Pre-Novitiate in 1984 in Vellakinar, Coimbatore, Don Bosco Boys' Home began its mission to train young people, especially orphans and rural boys, in both religious and technical education. Early milestones:

  • 1964: Fr. Casthelli initiated with 4 boys on Sept 15
  • 1965: Carpentry and mechanics began
  • 1967: House temporarily closed
  • 1980: Reopened for non-formal education
  • 1984: Workshops established
  • 1985: Extension and "Narshet" programs started
  • 1994: Prenovitiate moved from Pallithammam

Major Activities

  • School of Excellence: 327 students (158 Catholic, 169 Non-Catholic), 21 teaching & 9 supporting staff
  • Clubs: Cultural, Eco-friendly, Karate, Yoga, JRC, Music & Media
  • Extension Centre (Anbu Illam): 18 boys with care by lay staff
  • Scouts & Guides: One-day camps to build teamwork and confidence
